Small Cap Stock of the Day

by Dr. Joe Duarte,

May 8, 2002, 6:45 Central Time

Chart Courtesy of StockCharts.com

Business Summary:

Corvel Corp. (NNM:CRVL) manages and monitors health plans for health insurers.

Commentary:

The S&P Small Cap 600 index (SML) fell below 250 on 5-7 but continues to have rising support at 242-246. If SML can’t rally along with the markets on the Cisco news, it will be a very strong suggestion that money is about to rotate out of small caps and into the large tech stocks in the short term. The index still has room to move to the 260-280 area if it can rise above 258. But the truth is that we have to see new highs in the next few days, or the up trend may have ended. The S&P Small Cap 600 I-shares, IJR, may rally, thus we have added a new entry point.

Corvel continues to trade in its own world, while O’ Charley’s and Ruby Tuesday’s also acted well. D K Healthcare tripped our buy stop, and could well add to the festivities. We will be watching the market carefully over the next few sessions, as we look to expand our list of small cap stocks.
